Benefit of this forum is the sheer amount of information and learning from the vets.  I even pick ideas from here and talking points to reach out to prospects and clients.  I picked up a pitch here and a process that gave me the confidence to keep trucking and so far, results are not too shabby.

One thing that I have noticed is you start to pick up the Investment lingo from reading the threads here, which helps in a client conversation if used correctly.  You also pick up some forum lingo which I find to be hilarious.

NewRegRep, love that picture.  Btw, a while back on another thread, you posted something about being worried about an upcoming meeting w a manager at ML.  Clearly, it must have gone okay.  Where are you in the program?

Hi Primo - thanks for the props.

As the board at RR became more "I'm gonna out you" and less "Do you think we are at the bottom yet?" I cut back on the amount of time and the number of posts I made until the day came that I walked away completely.

Wink You know I also was painfully aware of the ongoing issues at the RR board.

I remember when my "buddy" told me an internet forum for financial advisors sounds like a stupid fucking idea, what a dipshit. I learn more on here than I did watching the firm provided power points. Even though I lost my job I'm still looking to get back in the biz soley because of what i have read on thsi site.

+1 for the one man shop, the jury is still out on the forum. I used to like RR.....

LOL, the jury is not "still out" on the forum.  The verdict was delivered about a year ago in favor (which was RR sentenced to death by their own greed & ignorance!).

I will add that this forum has given me tremendous knowledge on the struggles of beginning in this industry. With that, it gave me the confidence to jump in and take the risk. Thanks to all who have contributed here.

Mitesh - you are located in India. Why are you here, and why does your profile say New York?

I love this forum. Nothing else like it on the web for financial advisers to congregate and talk shop

I'm curious as to the origin of this forum. From what I can gather it began around 2010. There was a splitting from another forum. RR.com? Which is now wealthmanagement forums? I'm surprised this forum doesn't have more activity. I'm sure it did on its prior incarnations and isn't "what it used to be." Am I close or way off?

You got it part right, but here's the whole story. The old RR forum had a LOT of big producers and good content. There were a series of debates where the old guard there embarrassed some younger advisors (active/passive, whole/term insurance, fees/commissions, VA living benefits). The pikers who lost those debates decided to leave RR so they would have a "safe space" where they weren't owned so consistently. I won't name names, but they have psychological issues ranging from PTSD/anger management, God complex, napoleon complex, etc...

This site picked up a lot of traffic when some of the big hitters from RR joined AH to continue the debates. Unfortunately, the moderators couldn't take the abuse and banned all dissenting posters. We'll never hear from some of the legends of the old forum again - BFP, Lawrence, BioFreeze, voltmoie, XLockEDJ, Still@Jones, Wanker, aeromaks.

The other thing that holds down membership is that most of the moderators are closeted homosexuals. You'll note the prevalence of questions/comments about anal sex. Because of this, female posters are run off pretty quickly so us guys can play grab ass in the locker room together.

Um ok...strange but interesting. Are there other resourceful forums worth posting on?

I see value here but it never hurts to have multiple options.

Thanks
