I know you're semi-joking and narcissism/metro-sexuality aside, there's nothing gay about a well-dressed, well groomed, confident man. Don Draper was a stud and we should reclaim his legacy from girly-men and the slobs who make the rest of us look bad.

I agree, there is nothing gay about a well dressed well groomed guy. I consider myself one (when i am in the mood).
I just think its funny (ok, gay was't the right word, you know, my generation) that there are three pages of posts on the subject, in an all guys broker forum.

For the record - I wear a Charcoal Grey pinstripe (one thread, light pin), a dark navy suit, a medium navy suit, and a taupe suit. All with white shirts. And a black gabardine suit which i wear with a blue shirt.
Used to wear french cuffs most of the time, but save it only for special occassions now, i think people are more distrustful of wall street these days, and even more distrustful of folks who dress like Gordon Gekko
I'm very light on the jewelry, just a wedding band and a gold Movado.

Except on the days when I am not in the mood, and know for sure that i am not seeing anybody, in which case i wear a pair of dress slacks and a button down shirt.

Except on days like today, when i wake up feeling really like shit, AND know for sure that i won't be seeing anybody, in which case i wear Jeans and sneakers, and don't shave.
But most of the time, when i think i will or might be seeeing clients and or prospects, i dress like real money.
Sorry MINT, SF is right, I was wrong......Helado...March 8th, 2014

Agree on the French Cuffs. I think they look very nice, but I can tell that some people think it's too wall street. Same goes for the London Banker/Gordon Gekko contrasting collar.

Also for you old guys... yellow gold screams sleezy salesman. It should be white gold or preferably platinum...

For what type of jewelry?  Wedding ring?  Watch?  If so, I say b.s. on this one.

Yeah, it's all about your audience.  The top-notch look would go over very well in Manhattan, not so much in virtually any suburb.  Typically I would look to the attorney/CPA crowd and see how they dress.  But you have to be careful - many CPA's are VERY casual, and for some reason, many attorneys seem to be poor dressers.  Look at the larger, more prestigious firms and see how they dress.  You don't want to look like you should have an entourage following you.  You'll just make people nervous.  But if you are strictly going after $1mm+ clients (and more like $2.5mm+), the you could probably go Ghekko.

All types... for example Bio's watch was nice 25 years ago!! For me yellow gold just looks dated.

Yellow gold is just fine for wedding rings and watches. You really shouldn't be wearing any other visible jewelry other than a watch and a wedding ring anyway. Platinum or otherwise.

Bio's watch looked dated because it wasn't even a real rolex (rolex has never made a single watch dial with the crown and not the Rolex name, bio's just had the fake crown).

Soooooooo, Boxers, Boxer-briefs, or tighty whiteys?
We may "rob you slowly," but you're not going to see that shit.

Be careful what you wish for. LSU or B24 will be typing essays explaining the reasoning behind their choices in great detail.

LSU - "Well I believe boxer briefs are the clear choice. You must understand the difference between comfort and support. Support is needed when you have a busy day around the office and may be traveling to and from appointments or meetings. The comfort is needed for the times in between when you may be at your desk or under the desk of someone else. The balance between these two offer underwear diversification similar to the portfolios I create for my clients."

B24- "I think you are being too short sighted regarding the other two choices. I often will wear both boxers and briefs in the same day, often at the same time. This allows me to transition to one or the other throughout the day. For instance, I may be in the office early, drinking coffee and relaxing. This is the time for boxers. Around 9:30am when I have an appointment I will go into the restroom, pull a pair of briefs from my pocket and change out. The tightness I feel with the briefs really gives me the confidence I need when presenting solutions to my clients. If I close the deal, which is often the case, I will then feel more relaxed and I will go back to the boxers. This transitition gives me the flexibility I need throughout the day. This strategy is very similar to how I manage my client portfolios. We want solid choices to choose from, but we also want to be nimble in case the marketplace dictates such movement."
