Hey everyone,

I'm a licensed adviser working in Cyprus.... that's North of Africa, West of the Middle East, Under Turkey and to the right of Europe...

Currently working under an umbrella as self employed and am always looking to improve my business plan, strategies and ways to add value to my client's experience with me with their finances and plans.

I look forward to participating in this forum.

I'm curious how much of what we discuss here in the US applies to you in Cyprus.

Do you and your fellow advisors debate active vs passive too?  Is there an Edward Jones equivalent for you to make fun of?

If you enjoy those two topics, you'll fit in well here.

Our industry is being dragged to become fiduciaries. How does that work in Cyprus?

It sucks having that obligation to do what's right for people. Very unAmerican.

What from my post said that I oppose it? I said the industry is being dragged, not me. I think that is an accurate statement.

I'm strongly in favor of it and believe it should apply to NQ accounts as well. I've voiced this openly at region gatherings in spite of the prevailing view of others.

Well, we can always pop popcorn and watch Wolf of Wallstreet, and remember the good old days.

I think the problem is "having" to do what is right for people.

My guess is the net effect on shady shit will be zero when fiduciary standard is instituted across the board.

We had a regulatory seminar in my Ph.D. this summer where I tore apart the notion of compensation methods making one ethical.  People were like, "Do you work at Merrill?", and I said that I'd been RIA for nearly ten years, so no.
