Advice - Door-knock like crazy now.  You're in Florida and in about 4 months when it's 90+ degrees with 100% humidity, you'll be finding every excuse not to.

B24 - Thanks for the help. I think you’re right. I’m going to try switching the times I go out. I usually go from 9-4. Wasting time and energy hitting houses when no one answers.

Hacksaw - 100%. Between the rain and humidity, I doubt I’ll be door knocking as much.

Ron - Didnt even think to get name and address and try to google numbers. I was just trying to get it at the door

Learned a lot in one day on a forum board lol. I’ll post my stats tomorrow with the new time frames and see how the ratio compares.

But I had the same experience as you. I could knock from 9am-4pm and get 5 contacts. Or I could knock from 4-7pm and get 15-20, because WAY more people are home.

Then you can spend you mornings going to businesses.

Also, pay close attention to where people work in your area. If you have a couple of really large businesses in your area, focus your LinkedIn efforts on those people.

B24 - man you’re a life saver. I crushed it today...until the damn cops showed up and told me to leave lol. I got 9 contacts in one hour. I guess my permit with the county isn’t good enough for the city. I’ll have to file for a permit with the city before I go back out and DK.

Started knocking a few weeks ago....didn't do any mornings, mostly because so cold - even if people were home, they weren't going to want to open their door to talk. Typically getting about 70-80% contact rate. I have found that folks who are already in retirement are a lot more stingy with their phone numbers, so switched to "younger" neighborhoods to get my phone percentages up. I can circle back and work the older ones when I am not pushed for minimums. I'm in a rural area, so there aren't a ton of RING cameras. Although even with the RING doors, it's about 50/50.

Didn't think you could use LinkedIN for first phase - we were told had to wait on LinkedIN until after Can-Serve.....

Well, yeah. What are you gonna say to them? "Hey, I'd love to connect, I'm almost a financial advisor!"

Everything I said above was in reference to being an actual financial advisor (although I suppose the door knocking advice would be the same).

Thanks Ron. It’s going.

I feel like it’s inefficient but I have had some good conversations with people. Usually get 3-7 contacts per 100 houses. I’m still in the “trainee” stage at Jones so I’m kind of restricted on what I can do right now. I have to hit 250 contacts before the 26th. I’m sitting at 190 but I have about 55 contacts from my LinkedIn I’m about to drop in to hit this number. It’s not that door knocking is hard, it’s just inefficient and feels like your playing slots at a casino. You don’t really know who’s behind the door and no way to target specific people. The hardest part is knowing when people are home. For every 10 doors I usually get 1 or 2 who answer.

Quick update since you guys last heard from me. I’ve had a lot of shit happen at one time. My father unexpectedly passed away a few weeks ago,I caught the flu,had my LYP postponed twice due to everything that has happened. Went into a bit of a depression.

Made a decision that I’m not giving up. Went back out door knocking. Resigned from Edward Jones before my lyp so I wasn’t hooked for 3 years. Became friends with a guy that runs his owns an RIA in the area. Has been mentoring me throughout all of this hardship and has now offered me a position with his firm with a base salary until I get my book going. I believe this is the right move. His knowledge of the industry and knowledge of what I need to succeed will give me more than anything Jones is able to provide. Plus my commission split just went through the roof...I went from a bs 5-10% payout at jones during my first years to a 50% start and then 90% once I hit certain aum

Appreciate it B24. Do you have any experience in the RIA world? Is it more challenging to close prospects without the large firm name?

I feel like if I do the same thing I’m doing now, It shouldn’t be that different.
