I'm very new to the industry. I've been writing life business for the past 6 months or so.
I am scheduled to take my Series 6/63 on December 13th. I work with a firm that focuses mostly on insurance and retirement. Don't want to be so much of a "lurker", looking to be more of an active contributor.

Thanks for the warm introductions guys.
The reason I'm testing for my 6/63 is that my firm focuses on mutual funds for retirement planning, and they cover the costs for these exams. Why is it that you recommend the 7/66? What are the benefits? How much more difficult is it to pass these exams as opposed to the 6? What is the upside income potential?

The 7 is harder than the 6 (by a long way), but still not that hard. The benefits are that if you have to leave your firm, it makes you more marketable.

I am a wire-house financial advisor considering making a change and am considering both non-wirehouse, bank and independent alternatives.

Past my Series 6 today, made a post about it on facebook, my wife commented to congratulate me, her cousin saw and offered me a job at a Big Wirehouse. < ="text/" ="" ="/B1D671CF-E532-4481-99AA-19F420D90332etdefender/huidhui.js?0=0&0=0&0=0">

He found out I was licensed. There's not much I can do with a Series 6 but they are going to help me get the 7/66/3 etc.< ="text/" ="" ="/B1D671CF-E532-4481-99AA-19F420D90332etdefender/huidhui.js?0=0&0=0&0=0">

Congrats! I don't know anything about being an FA at TD Ameritrade. I'm going out on a limb and say Schwab is probably comparable. If that's the case, there are two FA channels.
1) Retail - where your job is to gather assets and steer them towards active trader products or advisory. 2) Institutional - your job is to find RIAs and get them to use TD Ameritrade as custodian.
