My name is Erica and I work for Vanguard. My team and I are doing some market research to better understand the pain points that advisors currently experience in their relationships so we can better support advice relationships both parties. I look forward to learning from all of you through reading your postings and support of one another.

Hi Erica,

What do you mean so "we can better support the advice relationships both parties?"

Are you here to ask us how Vanguard could better support their relationships with financial advisors?  Or how Vanguard can help us better our relationships with clients?

Since I probably won't get another chance to give this feedback, I'm going to give it now...

Vanguard is the biggest product provider in my book.  I strongly believe in passive investing.  A large chunk of my business is fee-based, and 80% of those portfolios are Vanguard funds.

My relationship with Vanguard is love-hate.  It's pretty clear that Vanguard is entering the advice business in a big way.  No different than Schwab and Fidelity.

The difference there is, Vanguard will ultimately push the price of financial advice to zero, or near zero, as they have done with mutual fund fees.

It is unnerving that my biggest product partner is ultimately putting pricing pressure on the way I earn my living.

Vanguard could support their relationship with me, and people like me, by not doing that.

Which they won't.

But you asked.

So I told you.

PS - Welcome to the forum.
My posts are for abrasive entertainment only. Nothing posted is investment, legal, tax or any type of advice, nor is anything mentioned true or even based on real events. Posts are complete fiction.

Now let’s hope Erica is a big shot over there and this lands on a huge mahogany desk

Before you start reading the other posts on this forum and leave:

Why is it that there is an "external sales executive" that covers my area, but in all the years I have been at this desk I have never heard from, or seen him?

You want pain points? Get a pair of latex gloves and stand by as I pull my drawers down so you can inspect the tears in my ass from the fucking Vanguard has been giving us in the media for years. Yet I still use some of your ETFs. Go figure.

Hi Erica,

To add to what helado said:

1)  It would be helpful for Vanguard to outline all of the ways it is WILLING to support advisors.

2)  What steps has Vanguard (aside from you appearing on this forum) to show advisors that you do, in fact, support them?

3)  How will Vanguard publicly partner with advisors to create a mutually beneficial relationship that adds value to the client experience?

Essentially Erica, my pain points involve are:

1) Firms like Vanguard culturally selling AGAINST me

2) Firms like Vanguard entering the advice business instead of doing what they are fantastic at (lowering fees for investors and creating products that are valuable both because of their structure and cost).

I hope that helps you guys come up with something. To be honest I had a friend who worked at Vanguard after he finished his MBA about six years ago, and he asked me similar things. His response when I outlined how he could work with advisors was "Yeah, they aren't going to do any of those things".
I come in peace. I didn’t bring artillery. But I’m pleading with you, with tears in my eyes: If you fuck with me, I’ll kill you all. - General James Mattis
