Spanker - hope you did well.  Level III results don't come out till August.  Let us know how you did.

After studying for the 24 I think I may start looking at the CFA (I know they are totally different exams). Getting hunkered down to study is hard to do, and the CFA interests me, so I feel like I shouldn't waste the discipline I've gained.
I sort of give a fuck.

Why would you not get the CFP after getting the CFA?  I thought both were beneficial in their own rights.

I have changed my mind on this.  In fact, as an experiment, I'm going to try and challenge the CFP with no studying and see what happens (assuming I passed L3).  I bet I will fail.  Insurance and estate planning will kill me

How did it end up?  Did you get the charter and sit for the CFP exam yet?

I'm just starting studying for L2.  I took a few years off in between.  Now with little kids am having a rough go carving out enough study time.

I did.  Sat in November for the CFP exam.  I guess I'll find out in three weeks.  Also, I cheated a little bit and studied for a couple of months.

Good for you getting back into it.

Mo, did you challenge the CFP requirements?  I have been looking to get the CFP after I get the CFA (mostly for the estate planning and insurance info) but I really have no desire to sit through the rest of it.

Yes.  But you still have to do the case study.  I used Greene Consulting.  And it is a pain in the ass.

Cool. Another CFA person here. I passed level II this past summer and I'll be taking level III this upcoming summer.

Check out Arif Irfanullah's channel on youtube, it's very helpful even though the material is a little dated. I can watch his videos and do the after reading exercises right after, I've been scoring 80% and up

Having gone through both programs I think there is value in both the CFP(r) and CFA programs if you are in financial planning. I could see becoming a CFP(r) certificant as pointless if you are an equity analyst or in portfolio management. Conversely, I think someone can be a great financial planner and not be a CFA charterholder. However the two programs compliment one another if you need to write full financial plans for an individual, as you will have the tools to write a fairly comprehensive investment recommendation. The CFA program as noted throughout this thread is more challenging and takes a sizable commitment of both time and money to complete. Further Level 2 and 3 are only offered once a year, so the time to completion can be long, which is difficult given a lot can happen in one's professional and personal life during that time period. I also agree that the Analyst Forum is a good place to network with others taking the CFA exams.
