I'm looking to get back into the industry after leaving over 6 years ago. My first time around I was not very successful in acquiring clients and AUMs; however, after working in a different industry, I miss the fast-paced environment of sales.
I would go back to my old broker dealer, but I'm looking into starting my own small firm-- any advice as to how I can get back into the game? I'm looking to get up and running by January of 2018. |

What makes you feel you will be successful this time around (specifically on your own)?

The industry has changed quite a bit over the past 6 years. I would recommend getting your licenses again with a firm that will walk you though the new landscape. After a year or so, if you feel this is still for you, then go indy and never look back.

I think you better come to terms with how you're going to prospect differently in terms of both quality and quantity. It's still just an acquisition game. Join a firm or get your 65 and start your own. Either way you're going to be prospecting for 5 years.

This industry hasn't changed in the last 15 years... It is still about gathering clients and AUM....the rest is just fluff

I wouldn't want to start over now, compared to 6 years ago. I can't take a crap without justifying where it came from and why i am doing it. Maybe your world hasn't change, mine sure has.
