What's getting lost in this whole thing, and what the "industry" is getting crucified for, is that shorting is actually a GOOD thing for the markets. It helps prevent manipulation and pumping. Yes, manipulation still occurs in many ways. And yes, plenty of firms take shorting too far. But without some ability to bet against an overpriced stock, you can just pump stocks to the moon with absolutely no check against it whatsoever. 

But try explaining that to the buffoons in Congress, or the general public.

I agree, but shorting is highly susceptible to abuse.

he's going to create a guru like deep fucking value course, sell it for $999 on gumroad and make a fucking killing. his target market isn't going to be family office type shit. it's going to be the millions of redditors and others that know him and think he's a god now. there's idiots making money selling courses on how to trade stocks. this guy now has a real win that everyone will now him for and he can sell that story pretty easy i think.

I was getting ads a while ago for a guy selling a newsletter with his stock picks $4/month. It was really well produced and he had something like 500k subscribers. Idk what it would require from a compliance standpoint, but I bet it’s easier than any of our models. DFV could fucking kill it doing something like that or a Patreon for a subscriber only YouTube channel.

I think more people use Robinhood because they market to young people, they allowed unlimited leverage, and approve options trading for new investors. They really leaned into treating stocks like a casino. 

Also, the #1 earning patreon account is Chapo Trap House. The self described “scumbag socialism” podcast. If a bunch of blue haired feminists can find a few scheckles to throw at them, I’m sure some degenerate frat bros can too.
