Hello all,
After three years of a friend haggling me, I decided to see what all the fuss is about. I'm an Insurance agent in a small town in PA. I specialize in Auto, Home, and now Commercial Insurance. I spent a few years running a few State Farm offices. I'm now an Independent Agent within an existing agency. Looking to buy the owner out or partner up in the next couple of years. That about sums it up. Edited by Turz - Apr/03/2011 at 6:22pm |

Welcome. Are you securities licensed (series 7, 65), or are you strictlty insurance?

Hi,
I'm a newbie oldie meaning I used to be in the industry and I'm thinking seriously about returning.
I'm in florida, Daytona/Ormond Beach. I am trying to re-enter the Securities Industry after
quite a long absence - I'm a single mom with a 13 year old and I don't really have a "cushion" so my decisions have to be very good.
I am considering relocating to Boca Raton or Hollywood - the market seems
better there. I have 4 years experience as an FC with Merrill Lynch and 3 1/2 years as a Special Agent with Northwestern Mutual and lots of business dev, sales & marketing experience in several
industries.
I'm attracted to fixed income instruments... there is a firm in Boca that specializes in Fixed income.
My questions - who would be the best firms to consider in this up and down market as a newbie - my licenses are long expired so I am seeking a good FC/FA training program and a salary plus commission. I am not a 30 something - I'm a boomer... but very energetic and ready to "break rocks again" with a great firm (is that an oxymoron? do good firms exist any more???). BTW, I was offered a position with Raymond James but the pay was SO LOW that I couldn't accept it.
any suggestions about companies, careers, locations, comp plans... muni's or other fixed income (which I love)
thanks for any suggestions

I believe ML has the highest starting salary - if you want to go back there.

I think I've already goofed here... I didn't realize my reply posted. How do you "do your first post"... do you reply to someone else's post first?
I use the computer all the time but sometimes....
thanks

Turz,
Question for you...a guy moved in down the street from me that runs a State Farm office. The guy only moved to the area a year or so ago. He drives a high-end Mercedes, and has 3 other cars. He's also renovating his entire house, and spends most of his summers on vacation. Can you just take over a State Farm office and make big bucks? Maybe he has money from other stuff, but I don't know.

I'm strictly Auto, Home, Life, and Commercial.
I stopped studying for my 6 & 66 when I left State Farm. |

B24,
Typically when you take over a State Farm Book of Business you take over 1/2 of what the previous agent had. It's their way of giving you incentive to grow the book instead of sitting back and cruising. Chances are he had the money before, but if he was a great agent he could be making low six figure bank by now. |
