Hello,

I have been in production since December.  I have been CC for my prospecting.  I have made over 22,000 dials.  I haven't had much success with the CC, so I am looking for door knocking technique.

I work at a wire in the midwest.

Welcome Huckleberry.  There are several on this board that CC and perhaps can offer suggestions.  Be sure to look through some of the threads on prospecting and post who you are calling, times of day, etc. if you would like some somewhat-constructive criticisms.

Define not much success.. I would think making 220 calls/day would get you somewhere by now

welcome huckle,

I'm a cold caller myself, would you mind sharing your pitch and your process? 22,000 numbers should have gotten you some accounts!

When you write a long post, always copy it to your clipboard before hitting send, just in case.

Welcome Huck! If you are making that many calls without success either your list is people in the low income area, or you aren't asking the right questions.

Number of Accounts 6
Turned down 2 accounts because they didn't meet minimum.
Pitched and missed a 1 million plus (actually presented plan)
Pitched and missed a 5 million plus (actually presented plan)

Use Sales Genie as my list.  I call residences.  I live in a city of 400,000 in the bible belt.

Here is what I have been saying...

Mrs. Jones?
(Mrs. Jones says) Yes.
This is Huck Finn with Majwire here in Mytown the reason...

(then one of the following)

CC#1
I was calling was to see if you had an retirement plan in place or looking to put one together?

CC#2
I was calling to see if you were open to ideas when it comes to your retirement plan or investments?

CC#3
I was calling to see if you would have any interest in a tax free bond paying 5%?

I am the only one cold calling in the branch.  I haven't met a good cold caller I could parrot yet (or any type of prospector).

Thanks for the suggestions

1. How can you be in the "bible belt" and the midwest?

2. So out of 22,000 dials, you have met with a total of 4 people? So you still have no AUM?

3. Some general feedback... none of those are very interesting... your pitch should compel the person you are calling to want to here more.

Example:
CC#3: Tell them what the taxable equivalent in a CD would be.. : Hey mr jones i have an investment paying 5% tax free, that is the same as a CD pay 6.5% is the bank currently paying you that?

CC#1: Mr jones I am adding a lot of clients right now who are just now getting back to even from 3 years ago, what is your broker doing to help you avoid the next market downturn? I would like to take 20 minutes of your time and show you what i am showing my clients that will help their portfolios the next time the market crashes.

There are tons of examples on this site.. check out Primo's 200 contacts page..

I agree it's what you're saying that's hindering your success.

Huck, my situation is almost identical to yours, except I have been calling business owners.  And my pitches I have been using are pretty much the same as yours.  So, I am going to try Chief's 2 scripts for the next few weeks and see what happens.  I am also going to get out of the office for a couple hours every afternoon to use the same scripts to doorknock with.

I'd be beating a dead horse over here with some of my overly repeated comments about this subject. So, I'm going to come up with something new, but simple/stupid.

What works for others, will work for you. What doesn't work for others, will not work for you.

Curious,

A lot of people say the old AGE script of, "this is Joe Smith calling from ABC investments.  The reason for my call is to see if you're an investor, and if you are, if you would be interested in a new idea from time to time?"

Does that work or not?  Because if it does, that doesn't create any urgency at all.
