Hey all,

I’m a new EDJ advisor. Received ~20mil in Gk assets and 6 months in have brought in about 2mil in new assets. My goal for the first year was 5mil new aum. I feel behind schedule but I am finally feeling confident with client interaction and my appt process (getting better at sales as well). I’m looking for any sort of helpful insight on most efficient prospecting activities (not go knock 100 doors a day to get 10 phone numbers lol). Also I’m 24yo, anyone else start this young and how did it go for you? Cheers!

First!

Edit: Let me see if I can hit some of the classics.

-You're going to fail (probably true).

-24 y/o? Are you hot? Pics?

Real advice - Door knocking isn't bad. Cold calling isn't bad. At 24 you're going to need to find a way to consistently and relentlessly do the really annoying stuff like door knocking and cold calling until you build your own client/referral base.

There's some other folks here who may be able to give you some pointers more specific to The Green Machine.

My wife’s boyfriend said I am above average looking, so you could ask him.

I haven’t really touched door knocking yet, I’ve been trying find more effective alternatives but sounds like it’s probably essential given my starting point.

I started with Jones at 26. Still here 15 years later.

This is what I would do if I were you.

Go through your book and find all the clients that are employed. Make a list of those employers. Then, use LinkedIn sales navigator to message everyone who works at those companies. Tell them you work with people at (Acme Inc.) managing investments and planning for retirement. Request a phone call to introduce yourself. Ask good open ended questions and whatever their answers are, recommend that you meet to create a retirement plan for them.

For people who do not respond on LinkedIn, call the company directory and find their direct line. Cold call them. Say you’re just following up as you weren’t sure they saw your message on LinkedIn. And then same pitch.

Do that until you’ve gotten a “no” from every single person at every single company.

This is really solid advice. Thank you! I will do this and let you know how it goes

Wait a minute….”My wife’s boyfriend…”.  What???

Started at EJ at age 21.  I’m mid 50’s and still in the business.  Why??   I kept my head down and just focused on talking to people.  Get rid of the noise and all the other fluff and just build relationships with people who become clients.  It really is that simple.  Everything else you will learn later on and is just noise.

Listen to the “experts” on here to learn the business and start planning your EJ exit.  You don’t work for them they work for you. Ok that advice is a bit early.

Yup. Pretty much everyone starts with $20mm to $30mm now. Not uncommon to be significantly more.

Are you suggesting that they should practice age discrimination? LOL
