I've been independent for almost a year.  Prior to going Indy, I was with a bank broker-dealer for 15 years and Dean Witter for a couple of years.  I'm loving independent life and wish I would have taken the plunge several years ago.

Welcome gads!

If you don't mind me asking...was there any trouble breaking away from the bank?

Ron 14,

Not as much as I thought I might have.  I got a Fed Ex package from them the first week, sternly reminding me of my one year non-compete, telling me to return any bank documents I might have in my possession and that they would seek a cease and desist order if I gave them reason to do so.

I brought my assistant with me as well as hired another bank employee (former teller) to pursue the clients because neither one was under a non-compete.  I have three weeks left until my one year is up and we've taken about 18 mil from them and moving more and more each week.  Since the initial letter,  I have not heard another thing from the bank.  I have been very careful what I have said and what I have put in writing this past year but in three week's I'll "unleash hell" on them.

Gads, welcome to the boards. Look forward to your contribution.

Are you now in an Indy bank program, or straight Indy?

Thank you for the welcome.  I've already gotten a lot of the boards in one day and look forward to contributing.

I guess I'm sort of a hybrid.  I'm straight Indy with most of my practice but I signed up a small community bank and getting ready to sign up another with the thought of hiring another broker soon to take over the bank platforms so I can concentrate on my core business.

I've enjoyed looking at the registered rep forum over time but felt there had to be other boards that were more active.  So I googled it and found you guys.

Ron, if you don't mind me asking, are you still at Chase?  If not, do you mind me asking where you are now?

I, for one, love the fact that he hired away employees that didn't sign non-competes to go after his clients. That is BRILLIANT! I wish I'd thought of that...

Censored...that's in my expansion plan too.  It will be my luck that a bank manager reads this and puts them all under non-competes!
