Hi all,

I'm a few months from switching careers and becoming a financial advisor.  I'm licensed in my province and currently studying for the first CFP exam.  I'll be joining a large firm in my area this December, and I'm reading voraciously to prepare myself.  Any thread recommendations would be greatly appreciated.  I'm sure there are some epic and poignant threads lurking in the archives!

Cheers,
Kalev

Welcome Kalev, good luck.
What do you mean, studying for "the first" CFP exam? There is only one exam.
If you eat an entire cake without cutting it, then technically, you only had one piece

Thanks for the warm welcome all.

I believe that the FPSC in Canada changed the accreditation process a few years ago.  There are two exams that we must successfully complete:  an 'entrance' exam to register with the council, and then a 2nd exam after 1 year of experience and an additional educational component.  I like that they've made it more difficult to obtain; it keeps a lot of the wannabes away!

The business is a little different up there, and it helps to have someone to bounce things off. You know, what color mukluks to wear, the best custodian for your wampum, which type of dogsled to use so your clients are impressed. This is shit we can't answer.

Are you trying to say they've been failures up until now?

I think they've succeeded, but because of that they want to secede.

The irony is that they're financially dependent on transfer payments from the rest of Canada, and specifically, the resource rich West.

Okay guys....I think we need to settle down.  I don't want to have to lock down yet another thread about Quebec!

Yes, please don't lock down my welcome thread.  Enough of the Q-word for today.

Can anyone recommend some good threads for a newbie like me to get started?  I've already bookmarked the "Journey to success or failure" thread .... great stuff for sure!

Any other recommendations would be much appreciated!
