Hey there, I'm a personal finance writer who's making a move over to actual financial advising. I'm not licensed yet, but I'm working through the exam material as we speak. Matter of fact, I took a break from studying to register here. There's a ton of value in forums like this that simply can not be found in a book, so I'm excited to see what you guys can teach me.

Is this kind of like the teacher leaving academia for the real world?  You know what they say about those who teach?  Or maybe it's those who can't do?
Either way, welcome to our side of the industry.

Holy shit.  A few years ago, I hired a financial writer (who had published a few books) as an advisor.  He was worthless from a business development point of view and zeroing in on client need was not even his week suit.

Good luck.  Please do better than him.
