Hello,

I joined my father's franchise practice with Ameriprise Financial 6 months ago and still learning a lot. I have the Series 66, 7 and the FL Life, Health and Variable Annuities. I heard this forum has some insightful information on the business so I would like to absorb as much as possible. Even though my father has been in the business for 30 years I'm finding it hard prospecting for new clients. I'm looking for new ways to find said clients in this day in age of social media and fast information.

The best new way is very much the old way:  network, network, network.  Pick a couple of organizations to join (like YMBL, or your local Chamber of Commerce) and just start meeting people.  Get comfortable asking people if they'll let you "look at their stuff" and see if you can find some ideas to help.  You'll be surprised at how willing people are to share their information as long as you are genuinely just trying to help.

When I was just getting going, I actually asked for some "guinea pigs" to help me practice my skills.  And some of those guinea pigs became some of my best clients, to this day.  Because I did find some good ways to help.

If you become a good question asker, a good listener, and become bold enough to ask questions to anyone . . . and humble/patient enough to ask for help solving problems (from folks like your dad), you really can't fail in this business.

Good luck.
