Mass Mutual V Northwestern Mutual

Hi guys, im super new to the industry in general. Im currently a Life Insurance agent transitioning to a Financial Advisor. Ive recently been recruited by both Baystate Financial(subsidiary of Mass Mutual) and Nortwestern Mutual.

Baystate seems more hands off withgreat resources and a team at my disposal. That opportunity would put my home office in a neighboring state a little over an hour away; which they dont seem concerned with as they are giving the opportunity to build my practice in part virtually.

Nortwestern seems to be more hands on and would want me in the office more which is only 20 minutes down the road.

Im having a hard time deciding which is the best for a new advisor really looking to build a lasting, growing practice. Anybody have thoughts or experiences to share on either of these firms?

If you want to be a Life Insurance agent who sells Whole Life as a solution for everything either firm will do.  If you want to be a real financial advisor neither firm is good.

Those firms only recruit the best.

Either firm will do for you. Get your CLU designation and make sure to pay your insurance license renewal dues. Good luck.

Consider Edward Jones.  Those firms are shit for a long term career.  They will pump you for 100+ names of your friends / family.  End up selling them shit and then throw you to the wolves to die alone.  At least a Jones you'll learn how to prospect and have some support.

I started out with a life insurance firm / broker dealer and I think I would have been much better off starting at Ed Jones.

Do you want to be a salesman, or do you want to build a business? Both require sales, but I think the long term payoff is much better for one than the other.

This is funny actually.

I am courting a guy with $2M right now that hates his RayJay advisor.

For whatever reason, it is between me and some Mass Mutual guy. Apparently he told the MML guy who I was, because the MML guy pulls up my IAPD or BrokerCheck and scared the client by telling him "I'm not even registered" because I don't have my Series 7. Confused

So after a lengthy explanation to the client, I think he is going with me. But nothing is final...
