I just found out about this forum site and am anxious to learn more.  I worked for 5 years in the insurance business at one of the well-known life insurance firms.  I then went on to get my MBA and graduated last year.  I now work in private wealth management at a top tier investment bank.  I am enjoying the experience thus far, although I am determined to make a transition to a more independent advisory model in the next 12-24 months.  I just value the independence and really want to be viewed as objective by my clients.  I am working on level 3 of the CFA and hope to pass the exam in June.

What are your thoughts on Asset Allocation? Seriously, we need to know before you can see the rest of the goods.

Bluetoon, u talkin to me? Big proponent of assett allocation w/an alpha kicker. ie, io generally run 80% of a portfolio @ a specific allocation and use the other 20%to trade sectors (ie etf's or single equities). Biggest problem i have had w/cookie cutter allocation models is that you tend to not contact your client nearly as much, by running 20% as an alpha strategy I find I contact clients much more frequently. When can I open the investment section?

also use our firms research for sectors that we think will out-perform.

I am also a big believer in asset allocation.  I follow a similar strategy to alter the asset allocation based mainly on tactical recommendations that are made by our internal strategy team.  I think that asset allocation is most effective when it is altered on a periodic basis to reflect current market developments.

LOL...I think WB was talking about the banned Texan and simply misspoke.  It's a bad habit of his...

Welcome, dcoates, although I would caution you that you might want to edit your first name out of your sig/post as it is easy to identify you.  This is a pretty tight group and generally good people, but he have had a bad seed or two in the past that liked to use personal information to cause real-life problems for members.  I would also ask that other's responding to your post edit your first name out for privacy reasons.  Again, I don't think anyone here now will cause you any problems by knowing who you are, but given past history, I thought it wise to provide a word of caution.

We look forward to your participation...

First post. Ha ha, this forum software looks familiar.

I'm an RR looking to go RIA, wanting to keep the insurance licenses and affiliate with a GA to be able to do fixed insurance products. Your public RIA thread is excellent, some generous sharing and comraderie, but the colored ink digressions into leveraged real estate are a little over the top. :).

Thanks, I enjoyed following your posts over the years and still have much to learn. It has been amazing to watch the transformation of forum and advisor, we have all been through a lot and Mr. Market continues to 'metamorph' us all.
