I am certainly looking forward to accessing the rest of the boards to absorb as much information as possible from those who have gone before.

As for me:
-1 year licensed (7/66/ins)
-mix of transaction (~40%) and fee based (~45%) with just a bit (~15%) of insurance where appropriate
-Only 11.5 in AUM currently
-"Small Rural Town,KY" office location

I really enjoyed the post in the lobby about the secret to getting new clients (Talk to people!!) so I figured I would check out the rest of the boards.

Welcome AdvSol!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't $11.5MM after 1 year good?

Not bad, but I started with about 6M in barnacles from an old office so it's not nearly as impressive as it sounds.

iceco1d- Thank you for the warm welcome, nice folks here it seems

sportsfreak,Ron 14- I appreciate the compliments, still just feels like soooo far to go it's hard to get too excited

Moraen- Yep, those familiar with Jones fee-based platform will recognize the AdvSol moniker. Good program with some good funds but if you want it to behave correctly you have to go Custom Model

2wheeledbeemer- I stole that phrase from a vet when I first started. Served to remind me that those clients weren't going anywhere and I needed to focus on new business for long term success.

Thanks for the responses, enjoy the banter.

They allow you to use a custom model?

Yes, you just have to stay within the list of funds available within the program (not Jones "Focus List",  more and varied options) and allocation % based on risk tol and model.

How many funds do you get to choose from?

Can you put any options, managed futures, non-traded REITs, 144A securities (if qualified), or hedge funds in there?

No.  It's funds and ETFs only.  You also can't pick the percentages.  If EDJ says you need 14% in Large Cap Value, you can "customize" which approved LC Value fund to use, but not the percentage.

Great question Wet. No, not in Advisory, we haven't quite gotten there yet.

Never mind Wet, AdSol. He is just trolling for new ways to wreck FA's lives.

No, I was just being a dick - I already new the answer.  Now that we can't tease B24 about Non-Traded REITs, we will need a new target.

What about me?  Of course that would mean I have to figure out what non-traded REITS are before I know you're making fun of me.

AdvSol - welcome.  I love the barnacles comment.  I took over a book of barnacles too.  At some point in the future it will feel good to you to know that a lot of those barnacles are gone because they either fell off or you scraped them off and you're cruising speed is a lot faster because of it.

Glad to have another Jones guy on board.

I appreciate the post. That is what I am told. It seems my new clients appear much more suited to what I want my book to look like. However there are a few of those barnacles I plan to keep on the ship. It will be nice one day to choose to do business with who you choose to do business, at least it seems like it will be.

$5MM a year is tremendous, especially for a rookie.  I'm more than happy to do $3.5 - $4MM per year, anything over that is gravy.

Of course, all assets I bring on are annuitized in one way or another, I'd probably see things differently if half of my business was bonds witha  1.5% markup, or ETFs in a commish account, A-shares, etc.

Ice you missed my point.  His dickhead managers layed that $10MM in 10 month bullshit on him yesterday.
