There’s an old story about JFK’s father knowing it was time to get out of the stock market when his shoeshine boy gave him a stock tip.

My BOA has an 18 yr old little sister.  And before you ask, I’ve never met her, haven’t seen a picture.

Sister posts on FB this morning  - OMG!!  Who knows about stocks?  Call me rn.

My BOA sees it, and texts her to ask her what’s going on, reminding her that she works for Edward Jones. Sister’s reply was - so you know about stocks?  LOL

Anyway, kid hears that a friend, who BTW got shot in the face last year during a drug deal gone bad, has made $6000 in the market and she wants in.  She’s only got $80, so he told her she should buy Zomedica because it’s cheap. Wacko

Here’s the point - I’ve had more people like this kid telling me that they’re on something like Robinhood or some other trading app recently than I ever had in my career.  It feels like it did back in 1998-99.

Any of you getting that shoeshine boy is giving me stock tips kind of feeling?

Wow, I thought maybe you were giving stock tips so the boys could "shine your shoes".

I am certainly concerned about the market, and there are some ridiculous speculations going on in certain names and sectors. However, I’ve come around to the idea that with low interest rates, Fed transparency on holding rates low, stimulus spending and millennials taking interest in equities, I think it’s reasonable that valuations will be reset to higher levels for a long period of time. Maybe 30 PE is the new 20. If your alternative is a 10 year treasury at 1.18%, maybe buying equities of companies that can use technology to substantially reduce costs over time is not unreasonable.

I agree w LA here.  There is going to wash outs in the Reddit troll crowd but it won’t affect anything but the fringes.  The big names push crypto and other small stocks are going to come to regret pushing when the regs start digging behind the curtain.

That’s right.  My BOA knows very little about stocks.

I think it was yesterday I heard an analyst talking about how much money has been lost over the years waiting for pullbacks.
What if the forum was limited to FAs only?

Prognosticators have predicted 17 of the last 3 stock market depressions.
